Fliers solicit leads in killing Dark-colored truck seen leaving complex when Valpo woman stabbed Date: February 5, 2005 To help solve the killing of Jamie Gray, city police will distribute fliers today at Jamestown Apartments, where the 29-year-old was fatally stabbed more than two weeks ago. The flier will feature a dark-colored truck, believed to be a Chevrolet Blazer or GMC Jimmy-type vehicle from the late '70s or early '80s seen leaving the complex around the time Gray was stabbed. The driver of the truck is "a person of interest," according to Valparaiso Police Detective Lt. Tom Horn. Horn said Friday the truck could lead to a suspect or witness. On Friday evening, Horn said six detectives -- three from Valparaiso and three from the Porter County Sheriff's Department -- are working on the investigation. "We continue to follow leads and check out anything that may help solve this case," Horn said. "We respond to anything new day or night." Gray, a single mother with a 7-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter, was stabbed 13 times on Jan. 19. She was pronounced dead at Porter hospital at 12:14 a.m. Jan. 20. She was found on the ground near a Dumpster, not far from her front door. "Many people are concerned for themselves," said Mary Gray, Jamie's stepmother. "You'd think they would want the person who did this off the streets." She said she hopes someone comes forward that will help police catch the killer.
